Of Comics and the Like

Over the weekend, I had the pleasure of meeting comic book illustrator Mike Perkins. He taught a seminar on illustration, hosted at A Comic Shop. Unfortunately, I opted out of it because I was too stingy to pay for the seminar ($10 is a lot to me.) Afterward, when the masses died down, I met up with my comic artist friends there, chatted with them, and had Mr. Perkins browse through my sketchbook. He liked my character designs, but his lack of any sort of criticism made me uneasy for the rest of the day.

As for today, to take a break from my own illustration projects, I gave myself a few breaks. In those times, I sat down and drew some comic book heroes I thought to be especially hot. In particular, my friend Zhu was looking for someone to draw Superboy. I thought Superboy was pretty hot, and would look even hotter with a fauxhawk. Add Thor to the mix, and you have my day today.

(Zhu, I hope it's okay that I show Superboy here...)

Theme for the Time Being: Horror

I've been on this "horror" streak lately. The reason why may be due in part with the script I wrote for a friend who makes horror movies. Maybe. I don't know. Anyhow!

The first two pics are of Colskar as a slasher maniac. I may do him up in some sort of gay horror movie comic strip. It might be fun.

The image below is from a Drink and Draw session I attended in Orlando, hosted by A Comic Shop. The theme for the first drawing we all did was "Zombies" and "Spring Break" so naturally I did a bunch of hunky zombie boys on the beach. Dinosaur Prince suggested I use this picture as a statement on my feelings towards male beauty, that no matter how grotesque or how monstrous, I manage to make the dudes I draw attractive.
